Understanding Wealth and Fulfillment

[00:00]: And what is wealth? Well, the people
[00:02]: have a lot of money and are very poor.
[00:03]: How many you know somebody has a lot of
[00:04]: money who's poor? Poor psychologically,
[00:07]: emotionally, they don't have great
[00:08]: relationships. They're not close to
[00:09]: their kids. Really, poor is the opposite
[00:13]: of wealth. Wealth, if you want to give
[00:14]: it a definition, is you can extract the
[00:16]: maximum joy out of any experience.
[00:19]: That's wealth.
[00:21]: If you have a ton of money and you don't
[00:22]: experience joy out of, if you can't
[00:24]: extract the joy, you're not wealthy. You
[00:25]: got money.
[00:28]: And most of us know money does not
[00:30]: change your life. People say if you're
[00:32]: not happy with money, you don't know
[00:33]: where to shop. I don't think that's
[00:34]: totally true. That's useful.
[00:37]: But the truth of the matter is I want to
[00:38]: make sure that you start being wealthy
[00:40]: here whether the numbers hit that or
[00:42]: not. And I'm one of you. I I'm one of
[00:44]: you. Meaning some of you starting the
[00:46]: journey may see where I am now and go,
[00:47]: "Oh my god, I remember I was fortunate
[00:49]: enough to get myself in proximity of
[00:52]: some huge players." And I got there
[00:54]: because of my skill set. I was able to
[00:56]: help them with something else in their
[00:57]: life. I changed their relationship or
[00:59]: changed their happiness or their joy or
[01:01]: changed their body or helped them shift
[01:03]: something in their business. And so
[01:05]: early in my life, I got in proximity
[01:07]: with some multi-billionaires. But not
[01:09]: only just multi-billionaires, cuz a lot
[01:11]: of multi-billionaires, as I found when I
[01:12]: did Money Master the Game, don't have
[01:14]: much of a lifestyle. Some of them are
[01:16]: tight as can possibly be. They're not
[01:19]: wealthy. They have lots of money. I know
[01:23]: one in particular who's actually became
[01:24]: a friend of mine in the beginning. be
[01:26]: like he'd be screaming at his wife and
[01:28]: his kid cuz they spent $2,500 a piece of
[01:30]: jewelry and the guy is a
[01:31]: multi-billionaire.
[01:32]: It's like he would we flew to India. I
[01:35]: flew to India and in those days I didn't
[01:37]: have my own plane but I chartered cuz
[01:39]: the quality of my life was affected by
[01:40]: it so much and he has a Gulfream and he
[01:43]: chose to go commercial
[01:45]: and I was like what is wrong with you?
[01:47]: And by the way, this person was like 70
[01:49]: years old. So it's not like there's a
[01:51]: lot of time to save up for something,
[01:52]: right? He could spend more money than
[01:55]: you could ever imagine every day and
[01:56]: never go through all his money. But some
[01:58]: people never get beyond scarcity no
[02:00]: matter how much money they have. So I
[02:02]: think it's important that on this first
[02:04]: day, we address the psychological part
[02:06]: just like we do in business, right?
[02:07]: Start out in business. I love to start
[02:09]: out with some of the core strategies
[02:10]: like optimization because you know how
[02:12]: much I love that cuz you can change any
[02:13]: business. How many of you have been to
[02:14]: business mastery, optimized your
[02:16]: business, and grown it significantly?
[02:17]: Make some noise if you're out there,
[02:18]: ladies.
[02:20]: But none of that works if you don't
[02:21]: change your psychology first, right? Cuz
[02:24]: that is always the barrier. And every
[02:26]: one of us in this room has a financial
[02:28]: set point, a wealth set point. And that
[02:32]: set point is kind of like body weight.
[02:34]: You know, people have their goal and
[02:35]: then they have where they live. And they
[02:37]: might go for their goal for a while, but
[02:38]: they usually adjust to that set point.
[02:41]: And the goal this week might be for you
[02:44]: to expand your set point. Not so you
[02:45]: have more money first. Expanding your
[02:48]: set point on enjoyment because if you
[02:50]: think more money is going to do it, it's
[02:51]: not. How many made a lot more money
[02:53]: today than 10 years ago? And you have a
[02:56]: lot more stress in your life as well.
[02:57]: I'm curious. Let me see. Right. People
[02:59]: think I have more money less stress.
[03:01]: Even stupid things that only we can talk
[03:02]: about here cuz outside this context,
[03:04]: people go, "Oh, first world problems."
[03:06]: And they're right. But if you have
[03:08]: multiple homes, it's another job, right?
[03:12]: You got multiple people and there's
[03:13]: different staffs in different locations
[03:15]: and somebody's got a problem and
[03:16]: somebody's getting sick and somebody's
[03:18]: fighting with somebody else in the
[03:19]: organization. Who knows what I'm talking
[03:21]: about? It's another freaking business
[03:22]: you got to run. Right now, I'm not
[03:24]: complaining in any way, shape, or form.
[03:26]: But it doesn't go away because you have
[03:28]: money. It goes away, meaning scarcity,
[03:31]: because you've made a shift in your
[03:32]: psychology. It goes away when you start
[03:35]: finding wealth in every moment. When you
[03:37]: can find the joy even in the stuff that
[03:38]: used to piss you off or freak you out,
[03:41]: that's when you become really wealthy.
[03:42]: When you're 30 or 35 or 40, you think
[03:46]: you know where you are or you think
[03:47]: you're hit a certain age, but you have
[03:48]: no idea that if most of you in this room
[03:50]: are under How many are under the age of
[03:52]: 40, I should say. How many under the
[03:53]: age? Yes. You have no clue. How many are
[03:56]: 40 or above? Let's see the room. We kind
[03:57]: of split the room here, right? A little
[03:58]: more. 40 and on are the highest earning
[04:01]: years of your life that will dwarf
[04:02]: everything else if you apply the types
[04:04]: of things we learn to grow your
[04:06]: business. And if you invest, it's
[04:08]: ridiculous the growth you can have. But
[04:10]: you have to be around the right people.
[04:12]: You have to raise your set point if you
[04:13]: want to. By the way, the goal is not to
[04:16]: have the most money. The goal is to have
[04:17]: the most joy with the least amount of
[04:19]: money needed. But whatever is going to
[04:20]: give you the most joy is it. You're not
[04:22]: competing with other people. You're
[04:23]: finding what it is that's going to make
[04:25]: you feel fulfilled. But the bottom line
[04:27]: is during that time, I remember going to
[04:30]: Peter and he invited me at this one
[04:31]: point to go on his yacht. You're going
[04:33]: in the northeast there through all the
[04:35]: islands and these are all people in the
[04:37]: movie business. And I'll never forget at
[04:39]: one point some guys were talking about
[04:41]: Peter and they were saying like he made
[04:43]: $25 million on that picture.
[04:47]: One year. It was really a 5-year
[04:48]: project, but all I heard was one year.
[04:51]: $25 million. And at that point, it was
[04:53]: like the most people made in a film as
[04:55]: an executive director, producer, I
[04:56]: should say. And I remember thinking, I
[04:59]: work 20our days, never less than 18. I
[05:02]: work six, seven days a week. I love what
[05:04]: I do. I'll never make $25 million in a
[05:07]: year. Now I make $20 million while I
[05:09]: sleep every year. Not counting anything
[05:12]: I do actively to give you an idea. I'm
[05:14]: just telling you it seemed impossible.
[05:16]: And I remember feeling like depressed. I
[05:18]: will never be out like this. I'm not one
[05:20]: of them. I'll never be at that level.
[05:21]: And I went into this little thing
[05:22]: because when you compare yourself to
[05:24]: others, you will steal your joy. got it
[05:27]: down because you're never fair in your
[05:29]: comparison. One is I had negated a
[05:33]: notice that Peter was 18 years my
[05:34]: senior. He also picked an industry that
[05:37]: was much more profitable than the one I
[05:39]: was in. I was in a business that had
[05:41]: margins of 8 to 10% like a restaurant.
[05:44]: You make one mistake or you make no
[05:46]: mistakes. The economy changes and you're
[05:47]: upside down. I didn't understand the
[05:49]: importance of margin. I didn't
[05:50]: understand how to maximize a business. I
[05:52]: didn't think my business could ever be
[05:53]: something of size or scope.
[05:56]: But I learned how to make that happen in
[05:58]: my core business before I ran off to 10
[06:00]: other businesses, which many of my
[06:02]: friends did. And my people around me,
[06:03]: it's like, "No, you would not maximize
[06:04]: this business." I said, "Trust me, I'm
[06:06]: doing more than anybody in the face of
[06:07]: the earth in this area." Still, you've
[06:08]: not maximized it. Bottom line is don't
[06:12]: judge yourself by where you are today.
[06:13]: It's an unfair judgment. There's also
[06:15]: other elements like are you happy in
[06:17]: your relationship? Is your body healthy?
[06:20]: You got all the money. You know, most of
[06:21]: you read. How many read Life Force? I'm
[06:23]: curious. If you haven't, I hope you will
[06:24]: and I hope you'll apply it. We'll talk
[06:26]: some of those principles this week on
[06:27]: one morning as well because you know
[06:29]: there I started the book with a quote.
[06:31]: The quote was really simple. A person
[06:32]: who's healthy has a million dreams. A
[06:35]: person who's not has one. Everything
[06:38]: else will go away. So we don't always
[06:40]: compare fairly. I want you to know where
[06:42]: you are is not what matters. I also want
[06:45]: you to know where you want to go is what
[06:47]: matters and that the tools to get there
[06:48]: are here. And in the beginning, some of
[06:51]: you may feel a little overwhelmed
[06:52]: because there may be language or terms
[06:54]: that are used that you're not familiar
[06:55]: with. Even if you're sophisticated
[06:57]: investors, some of these people may use
[06:58]: terms. Some of them are traders and so
[07:00]: forth you not be familiar with. Don't
[07:01]: let it bother you in any way. They're
[07:03]: not smarter than you are. It's like the
[07:05]: medical profession. It's like lawyers.
[07:07]: They have certain words that give them
[07:09]: power. Now, they use words. Now,
[07:12]: everybody uses words. So, these people
[07:13]: have words. When I first learned to fly
[07:15]: a helicopter, I remember it's like
[07:17]: you're trying to listen. the sound so
[07:18]: loud and the the voice of the guy in the
[07:21]: tower is breaking up. I have no idea
[07:23]: what he said. Even if I understood it, I
[07:25]: wouldn't know what he said. But after a
[07:26]: while, you'll learn. Especially after
[07:28]: about 5 days of immersion here, you'll
[07:31]: things will start to make sense. Just
[07:32]: like if I threw you in Italy and didn't
[07:35]: give you any language learning and said,
[07:36]: "I'll pick you up in 90 days." With no
[07:40]: teacher, you'll figure it out because
[07:41]: you're in immersion. And the same thing
[07:43]: happens after a while. You learn there's
[07:44]: only so many patterns, right? There's
[07:46]: only so many things the tower can say.
[07:48]: So even though a little part of it, you
[07:50]: know what it means. You know the rhythm.
[07:52]: And that's what will happen with you
[07:53]: financially over the next decade if you
[07:55]: handle yourself well. And my decade went
[07:57]: from I remember trying to figure out my
[07:59]: financial plan of how do I get $2
[08:01]: million in income while I'm sleeping,
[08:04]: which would have covered my lifestyle
[08:06]: cuz I didn't own a $50 million house and
[08:08]: all that kind of or a BBJ. I was
[08:11]: chartering planes. And so then it's like
[08:13]: it grew from that to 20 million a year
[08:15]: while I'm sleeping and my best years I
[08:18]: made over $100 million to give you an
[08:19]: idea. I've got several years $100
[08:21]: million and I got the next three years
[08:22]: I'll make over $100 million. So there
[08:24]: wasn't a lot of role models like oh
[08:25]: you're in the movie business there's a
[08:27]: dozen or so huge assets people have
[08:29]: built like that area but I so I had to
[08:31]: see I had to find I had to find my way.
[08:34]: But what did it was getting
[08:35]: uncomfortable
[08:36]: but still enjoying my life. You find the
[08:39]: balance I'm talking about here this
[08:41]: week. You're going to get uncomfortable.
[08:43]: We're in really interesting times. Some
[08:46]: of the most challenging times, very
[08:47]: different than anything most of you have
[08:48]: experienced in your lifetime. But
[08:50]: everybody will experience in their
[08:51]: lifetime they live to be at least 80.
[08:53]: There's four seasons. Some people
[08:55]: experience winter when they're a kid.
[08:57]: Some people when they're in the middle
[08:59]: ages, you know, 20s to 40, some 40 to
[09:02]: 60, some 60 to 80. But if you live, no
[09:04]: one escapes winter. But winter is well,
[09:07]: if I asked you, wouldn't be the easiest
[09:10]: and fastest time, maybe not easiest,
[09:12]: what's the fastest time to make money?
[09:15]: When can you make the most money in the
[09:16]: shortest period of time? What season?
[09:18]: It's winter.
[09:21]: Why?
[09:24]: Cuz everybody's scared. And when they're
[09:26]: scared, they change what they value
[09:28]: things for. And the way you make money
[09:31]: is not by buying things for what they're
[09:32]: worth. You're going to buy something for
[09:35]: less than it's really worth because of
[09:37]: the psychological change. Or something
[09:39]: maybe that's worth that now today, but
[09:40]: with inflation it's going to grow.
[09:43]: That's the way that's the way you make
[09:44]: money. Or building a business and
[09:46]: growing it and selling it for a
[09:47]: multiple. Those are the only ways you
[09:48]: get wealthy financially. So if you think
[09:51]: about it, this is the best season in the
[09:53]: world if you can keep this and this
[09:54]: straight. If you can find your courage
[09:57]: and your faith and determination and if
[09:59]: you can put together a great plan, which
[10:00]: if you play with me full out,
[10:08]: you've got great, you know,
[10:09]: sophistication, but you don't have great
[10:11]: execution.
[10:12]: And the only thing we're paid for is
[10:14]: execution.
[10:15]: This week, I want you to play like it's
[10:17]: brand new. Even if you've been here, and
[10:19]: there's going to be plenty is brand new,
[10:21]: cuz the world's brand new. But we live
[10:23]: in a culture today where if you're not
[10:25]: careful, you'll be infected by it. Where
[10:27]: you think I remember I had uh Prime
[10:29]: Minister Tony Blair was here one year
[10:31]: for us for this program. Some of you
[10:33]: were at the program and we interviewed
[10:34]: him and we were talking up about Brexit
[10:36]: and you know he said, "You know what's
[10:38]: really funny is people come to me all
[10:39]: the time and I'll tell them my point of
[10:40]: view about Brexit and they go, "You're
[10:42]: totally wrong." They go on and on and on
[10:44]: and he'd say, "Well, I was prime
[10:45]: minister for 8 years. I do have some
[10:47]: understanding." But today people think
[10:49]: if they've read about flying they can
[10:50]: fly any plane. Like if they've
[10:52]: experienced something once and they
[10:54]: understand it they think they know it.
[10:56]: That's not how it works. The greatest
[10:58]: gift I've got from Jim Ran was
[11:00]: repetition. To understand repetition is
[11:03]: the mother of mastery. That's repetition
[11:05]: is the mother of skill. All skill comes
[11:08]: repetition. And so you hear it once you
[11:10]: start to understand it. What we're going
[11:12]: to share this week is not complex. My
[11:14]: job is to make it as simple as I can so
[11:15]: it's less complex for you. But you need
[11:18]: to hear it and hear it and hear it
[11:19]: because each time you hear it with more
[11:20]: emotion, more feeling, you apply another
[11:22]: part and another part. Who's ever gone
[11:24]: to a a movie or read a book you'd read
[11:26]: before and you read it another stage of
[11:27]: life and it was like a totally different
[11:29]: movie or book or I don't remember that
[11:30]: being in the movie, right? It's
[11:32]: because you're growing cuz there's
[11:34]: something new. So every time I make sure
[11:36]: I don't say I know this. When I was
[11:38]: doing Money Master the Game, I'd spent
[11:40]: 23 years coaching Paul Tudtor Jones, one
[11:43]: of the 10 most successful financial
[11:45]: traders in the history of the world.
[11:46]: I've coached him every day for 23 years.
[11:50]: He is a genius. He gives me way more
[11:52]: credit than I deserve, but I like it.
[11:56]: But I've also learned so much from him.
[11:58]: So, I knew a lot before I went to go
[12:00]: interview these people. But I was more
[12:03]: than humbled because I went in with a
[12:04]: fresh view that as much as I think I
[12:06]: know about working with the best guys on
[12:07]: earth, there's so many ways to crack
[12:09]: this egg, so to speak. And I learned so
[12:12]: many distinctions. That was 10 years
[12:13]: ago, 2013, when I was in the middle of
[12:16]: writing that book. Where I am now versus
[12:19]: I was then because I've applied these
[12:20]: tools is beyond imagination. I have a
[12:23]: billion dollar net worth in the next 36
[12:25]: months, 5 years. If I don't do anything
[12:27]: that has a blowup, just my normal asset
[12:29]: at their normal growth at about 6 or 7%.
[12:34]: And I never focused on money. It wasn't
[12:35]: my focus. I changed to make sure I
[12:37]: included money as my focus. But I wasn't
[12:40]: somebody saying I'm in, you know, I've
[12:41]: got to do this. And being a billionaire
[12:43]: will not change my life at all, but
[12:45]: it'll be fun. There's only 3,000 of them
[12:47]: in the whole planet. So, it's like
[12:48]: you're a part of a unique club and it's
[12:50]: because I've applied these principles.
[12:52]: So, I am so excited. Your goal may not
[12:53]: to be a billionaire, and it certainly
[12:55]: wasn't mine, but I want you to have the
[12:57]: greatest quality of life possible. But
[13:00]: to do that, we got to take this thing
[13:01]: called money and put it in a context
[13:03]: where it doesn't add stress to your life
[13:05]: and where you feel a sense of skill and
[13:08]: understanding and optimism that even if
[13:10]: all hell breaks loose, things go up and
[13:12]: down. It's not a straight line. If you
[13:14]: think it's a straight line to what you
[13:15]: want to achieve, you've not been in
[13:17]: business. If you go to nature, show me a
[13:19]: straight line in nature. You won't find
[13:21]: it. If you find it, a human built it.
[13:23]: That's not how things grow. How do they
[13:25]: grow? They grow up and they come down a
[13:26]: little bit like a stock, right? But if
[13:28]: it's successful, the overall arc is up.
[13:31]: And over the years, there's a stacking
[13:33]: of those effects. So, what I really want
[13:35]: to get across to you is I don't give a
[13:37]: where you are. Number one, let's
[13:38]: start by being wealthy. Because if you
[13:40]: can extract as much joy as possible out
[13:42]: of every moment from little things, not
[13:44]: just the big things, not the astronaut
[13:47]: who goes to the moon and they walk on
[13:48]: the moon and it's the most unbelievable
[13:50]: experience and they come home and they
[13:51]: have a ticker tape parade in New York
[13:53]: and they shake the president's hand and
[13:54]: then what they thought the way to have
[13:57]: adventures walk on the moon and they did
[13:59]: it.

[00:00]: And what is wealth? Well, the people
[00:02]: have a lot of money and are very poor.
[00:03]: How many you know somebody has a lot of
[00:04]: money who's poor? Poor psychologically,
[00:07]: emotionally, they don't have great
[00:08]: relationships. They're not close to
[00:09]: their kids. Really, poor is the opposite
[00:13]: of wealth. Wealth, if you want to give
[00:14]: it a definition, is you can extract the
[00:16]: maximum joy out of any experience.
[00:19]: That's wealth.
[00:21]: If you have a ton of money and you don't
[00:22]: experience joy out of, if you can't
[00:24]: extract the joy, you're not wealthy. You
[00:25]: got money.
[00:28]: And most of us know money does not
[00:30]: change your life. People say if you're
[00:32]: not happy with money, you don't know
[00:33]: where to shop. I don't think that's
[00:34]: totally true. That's useful.
[00:37]: But the truth of the matter is I want to
[00:38]: make sure that you start being wealthy
[00:40]: here whether the numbers hit that or
[00:42]: not. And I'm one of you. I I'm one of
[00:44]: you. Meaning some of you starting the
[00:46]: journey may see where I am now and go,
[00:47]: "Oh my god, I remember I was fortunate
[00:49]: enough to get myself in proximity of
[00:52]: some huge players." And I got there
[00:54]: because of my skill set. I was able to
[00:56]: help them with something else in their
[00:57]: life. I changed their relationship or
[00:59]: changed their happiness or their joy or
[01:01]: changed their body or helped them shift
[01:03]: something in their business. And so
[01:05]: early in my life, I got in proximity
[01:07]: with some multi-billionaires. But not
[01:09]: only just multi-billionaires, cuz a lot
[01:11]: of multi-billionaires, as I found when I
[01:12]: did Money Master the Game, don't have
[01:14]: much of a lifestyle. Some of them are
[01:16]: tight as can possibly be. They're not
[01:19]: wealthy. They have lots of money. I know
[01:23]: one in particular who's actually became
[01:24]: a friend of mine in the beginning. be
[01:26]: like he'd be screaming at his wife and
[01:28]: his kid cuz they spent $2,500 a piece of
[01:30]: jewelry and the guy is a
[01:31]: multi-billionaire.
[01:32]: It's like he would we flew to India. I
[01:35]: flew to India and in those days I didn't
[01:37]: have my own plane but I chartered cuz
[01:39]: the quality of my life was affected by
[01:40]: it so much and he has a Gulfream and he
[01:43]: chose to go commercial
[01:45]: and I was like what is wrong with you?
[01:47]: And by the way, this person was like 70
[01:49]: years old. So it's not like there's a
[01:51]: lot of time to save up for something,
[01:52]: right? He could spend more money than
[01:55]: you could ever imagine every day and
[01:56]: never go through all his money. But some
[01:58]: people never get beyond scarcity no
[02:00]: matter how much money they have. So I
[02:02]: think it's important that on this first
[02:04]: day, we address the psychological part
[02:06]: just like we do in business, right?
[02:07]: Start out in business. I love to start
[02:09]: out with some of the core strategies
[02:10]: like optimization because you know how
[02:12]: much I love that cuz you can change any
[02:13]: business. How many of you have been to
[02:14]: business mastery, optimized your
[02:16]: business, and grown it significantly?
[02:17]: Make some noise if you're out there,
[02:18]: ladies.
[02:20]: But none of that works if you don't
[02:21]: change your psychology first, right? Cuz
[02:24]: that is always the barrier. And every
[02:26]: one of us in this room has a financial
[02:28]: set point, a wealth set point. And that
[02:32]: set point is kind of like body weight.
[02:34]: You know, people have their goal and
[02:35]: then they have where they live. And they
[02:37]: might go for their goal for a while, but
[02:38]: they usually adjust to that set point.
[02:41]: And the goal this week might be for you
[02:44]: to expand your set point. Not so you
[02:45]: have more money first. Expanding your
[02:48]: set point on enjoyment because if you
[02:50]: think more money is going to do it, it's
[02:51]: not. How many made a lot more money
[02:53]: today than 10 years ago? And you have a
[02:56]: lot more stress in your life as well.
[02:57]: I'm curious. Let me see. Right. People
[02:59]: think I have more money less stress.
[03:01]: Even stupid things that only we can talk
[03:02]: about here cuz outside this context,
[03:04]: people go, "Oh, first world problems."
[03:06]: And they're right. But if you have
[03:08]: multiple homes, it's another job, right?
[03:12]: You got multiple people and there's
[03:13]: different staffs in different locations
[03:15]: and somebody's got a problem and
[03:16]: somebody's getting sick and somebody's
[03:18]: fighting with somebody else in the
[03:19]: organization. Who knows what I'm talking
[03:21]: about? It's another freaking business
[03:22]: you got to run. Right now, I'm not
[03:24]: complaining in any way, shape, or form.
[03:26]: But it doesn't go away because you have
[03:28]: money. It goes away, meaning scarcity,
[03:31]: because you've made a shift in your
[03:32]: psychology. It goes away when you start
[03:35]: finding wealth in every moment. When you
[03:37]: can find the joy even in the stuff that
[03:38]: used to piss you off or freak you out,
[03:41]: that's when you become really wealthy.
[03:42]: When you're 30 or 35 or 40, you think
[03:46]: you know where you are or you think
[03:47]: you're hit a certain age, but you have
[03:48]: no idea that if most of you in this room
[03:50]: are under How many are under the age of
[03:52]: 40, I should say. How many under the
[03:53]: age? Yes. You have no clue. How many are
[03:56]: 40 or above? Let's see the room. We kind
[03:57]: of split the room here, right? A little
[03:58]: more. 40 and on are the highest earning
[04:01]: years of your life that will dwarf
[04:02]: everything else if you apply the types
[04:04]: of things we learn to grow your
[04:06]: business. And if you invest, it's
[04:08]: ridiculous the growth you can have. But
[04:10]: you have to be around the right people.
[04:12]: You have to raise your set point if you
[04:13]: want to. By the way, the goal is not to
[04:16]: have the most money. The goal is to have
[04:17]: the most joy with the least amount of
[04:19]: money needed. But whatever is going to
[04:20]: give you the most joy is it. You're not
[04:22]: competing with other people. You're
[04:23]: finding what it is that's going to make
[04:25]: you feel fulfilled. But the bottom line
[04:27]: is during that time, I remember going to
[04:30]: Peter and he invited me at this one
[04:31]: point to go on his yacht. You're going
[04:33]: in the northeast there through all the
[04:35]: islands and these are all people in the
[04:37]: movie business. And I'll never forget at
[04:39]: one point some guys were talking about
[04:41]: Peter and they were saying like he made
[04:43]: $25 million on that picture.
[04:47]: One year. It was really a 5-year
[04:48]: project, but all I heard was one year.
[04:51]: $25 million. And at that point, it was
[04:53]: like the most people made in a film as
[04:55]: an executive director, producer, I
[04:56]: should say. And I remember thinking, I
[04:59]: work 20our days, never less than 18. I
[05:02]: work six, seven days a week. I love what
[05:04]: I do. I'll never make $25 million in a
[05:07]: year. Now I make $20 million while I
[05:09]: sleep every year. Not counting anything
[05:12]: I do actively to give you an idea. I'm
[05:14]: just telling you it seemed impossible.
[05:16]: And I remember feeling like depressed. I
[05:18]: will never be out like this. I'm not one
[05:20]: of them. I'll never be at that level.
[05:21]: And I went into this little thing
[05:22]: because when you compare yourself to
[05:24]: others, you will steal your joy. got it
[05:27]: down because you're never fair in your
[05:29]: comparison. One is I had negated a
[05:33]: notice that Peter was 18 years my
[05:34]: senior. He also picked an industry that
[05:37]: was much more profitable than the one I
[05:39]: was in. I was in a business that had
[05:41]: margins of 8 to 10% like a restaurant.
[05:44]: You make one mistake or you make no
[05:46]: mistakes. The economy changes and you're
[05:47]: upside down. I didn't understand the
[05:49]: importance of margin. I didn't
[05:50]: understand how to maximize a business. I
[05:52]: didn't think my business could ever be
[05:53]: something of size or scope.
[05:56]: But I learned how to make that happen in
[05:58]: my core business before I ran off to 10
[06:00]: other businesses, which many of my
[06:02]: friends did. And my people around me,
[06:03]: it's like, "No, you would not maximize
[06:04]: this business." I said, "Trust me, I'm
[06:06]: doing more than anybody in the face of
[06:07]: the earth in this area." Still, you've
[06:08]: not maximized it. Bottom line is don't
[06:12]: judge yourself by where you are today.
[06:13]: It's an unfair judgment. There's also
[06:15]: other elements like are you happy in
[06:17]: your relationship? Is your body healthy?
[06:20]: You got all the money. You know, most of
[06:21]: you read. How many read Life Force? I'm
[06:23]: curious. If you haven't, I hope you will
[06:24]: and I hope you'll apply it. We'll talk
[06:26]: some of those principles this week on
[06:27]: one morning as well because you know
[06:29]: there I started the book with a quote.
[06:31]: The quote was really simple. A person
[06:32]: who's healthy has a million dreams. A
[06:35]: person who's not has one. Everything
[06:38]: else will go away. So we don't always
[06:40]: compare fairly. I want you to know where
[06:42]: you are is not what matters. I also want
[06:45]: you to know where you want to go is what
[06:47]: matters and that the tools to get there
[06:48]: are here. And in the beginning, some of
[06:51]: you may feel a little overwhelmed
[06:52]: because there may be language or terms
[06:54]: that are used that you're not familiar
[06:55]: with. Even if you're sophisticated
[06:57]: investors, some of these people may use
[06:58]: terms. Some of them are traders and so
[07:00]: forth you not be familiar with. Don't
[07:01]: let it bother you in any way. They're
[07:03]: not smarter than you are. It's like the
[07:05]: medical profession. It's like lawyers.
[07:07]: They have certain words that give them
[07:09]: power. Now, they use words. Now,
[07:12]: everybody uses words. So, these people
[07:13]: have words. When I first learned to fly
[07:15]: a helicopter, I remember it's like
[07:17]: you're trying to listen. the sound so
[07:18]: loud and the the voice of the guy in the
[07:21]: tower is breaking up. I have no idea
[07:23]: what he said. Even if I understood it, I
[07:25]: wouldn't know what he said. But after a
[07:26]: while, you'll learn. Especially after
[07:28]: about 5 days of immersion here, you'll
[07:31]: things will start to make sense. Just
[07:32]: like if I threw you in Italy and didn't
[07:35]: give you any language learning and said,
[07:36]: "I'll pick you up in 90 days." With no
[07:40]: teacher, you'll figure it out because
[07:41]: you're in immersion. And the same thing
[07:43]: happens after a while. You learn there's
[07:44]: only so many patterns, right? There's
[07:46]: only so many things the tower can say.
[07:48]: So even though a little part of it, you
[07:50]: know what it means. You know the rhythm.
[07:52]: And that's what will happen with you
[07:53]: financially over the next decade if you
[07:55]: handle yourself well. And my decade went
[07:57]: from I remember trying to figure out my
[07:59]: financial plan of how do I get $2
[08:01]: million in income while I'm sleeping,
[08:04]: which would have covered my lifestyle
[08:06]: cuz I didn't own a $50 million house and
[08:08]: all that kind of or a BBJ. I was
[08:11]: chartering planes. And so then it's like
[08:13]: it grew from that to 20 million a year
[08:15]: while I'm sleeping and my best years I
[08:18]: made over $100 million to give you an
[08:19]: idea. I've got several years $100
[08:21]: million and I got the next three years
[08:22]: I'll make over $100 million. So there
[08:24]: wasn't a lot of role models like oh
[08:25]: you're in the movie business there's a
[08:27]: dozen or so huge assets people have
[08:29]: built like that area but I so I had to
[08:31]: see I had to find I had to find my way.
[08:34]: But what did it was getting
[08:35]: uncomfortable
[08:36]: but still enjoying my life. You find the
[08:39]: balance I'm talking about here this
[08:41]: week. You're going to get uncomfortable.
[08:43]: We're in really interesting times. Some
[08:46]: of the most challenging times, very
[08:47]: different than anything most of you have
[08:48]: experienced in your lifetime. But
[08:50]: everybody will experience in their
[08:51]: lifetime they live to be at least 80.
[08:53]: There's four seasons. Some people
[08:55]: experience winter when they're a kid.
[08:57]: Some people when they're in the middle
[08:59]: ages, you know, 20s to 40, some 40 to
[09:02]: 60, some 60 to 80. But if you live, no
[09:04]: one escapes winter. But winter is well,
[09:07]: if I asked you, wouldn't be the easiest
[09:10]: and fastest time, maybe not easiest,
[09:12]: what's the fastest time to make money?
[09:15]: When can you make the most money in the
[09:16]: shortest period of time? What season?
[09:18]: It's winter.
[09:21]: Why?
[09:24]: Cuz everybody's scared. And when they're
[09:26]: scared, they change what they value
[09:28]: things for. And the way you make money
[09:31]: is not by buying things for what they're
[09:32]: worth. You're going to buy something for
[09:35]: less than it's really worth because of
[09:37]: the psychological change. Or something
[09:39]: maybe that's worth that now today, but
[09:40]: with inflation it's going to grow.
[09:43]: That's the way that's the way you make
[09:44]: money. Or building a business and
[09:46]: growing it and selling it for a
[09:47]: multiple. Those are the only ways you
[09:48]: get wealthy financially. So if you think
[09:51]: about it, this is the best season in the
[09:53]: world if you can keep this and this
[09:54]: straight. If you can find your courage
[09:57]: and your faith and determination and if
[09:59]: you can put together a great plan, which
[10:00]: if you play with me full out,
[10:08]: you've got great, you know,
[10:09]: sophistication, but you don't have great
[10:11]: execution.
[10:12]: And the only thing we're paid for is
[10:14]: execution.
[10:15]: This week, I want you to play like it's
[10:17]: brand new. Even if you've been here, and
[10:19]: there's going to be plenty is brand new,
[10:21]: cuz the world's brand new. But we live
[10:23]: in a culture today where if you're not
[10:25]: careful, you'll be infected by it. Where
[10:27]: you think I remember I had uh Prime
[10:29]: Minister Tony Blair was here one year
[10:31]: for us for this program. Some of you
[10:33]: were at the program and we interviewed
[10:34]: him and we were talking up about Brexit
[10:36]: and you know he said, "You know what's
[10:38]: really funny is people come to me all
[10:39]: the time and I'll tell them my point of
[10:40]: view about Brexit and they go, "You're
[10:42]: totally wrong." They go on and on and on
[10:44]: and he'd say, "Well, I was prime
[10:45]: minister for 8 years. I do have some
[10:47]: understanding." But today people think
[10:49]: if they've read about flying they can
[10:50]: fly any plane. Like if they've
[10:52]: experienced something once and they
[10:54]: understand it they think they know it.
[10:56]: That's not how it works. The greatest
[10:58]: gift I've got from Jim Ran was
[11:00]: repetition. To understand repetition is
[11:03]: the mother of mastery. That's repetition
[11:05]: is the mother of skill. All skill comes
[11:08]: repetition. And so you hear it once you
[11:10]: start to understand it. What we're going
[11:12]: to share this week is not complex. My
[11:14]: job is to make it as simple as I can so
[11:15]: it's less complex for you. But you need
[11:18]: to hear it and hear it and hear it
[11:19]: because each time you hear it with more
[11:20]: emotion, more feeling, you apply another
[11:22]: part and another part. Who's ever gone
[11:24]: to a a movie or read a book you'd read
[11:26]: before and you read it another stage of
[11:27]: life and it was like a totally different
[11:29]: movie or book or I don't remember that
[11:30]: being in the movie, right? It's
[11:32]: because you're growing cuz there's
[11:34]: something new. So every time I make sure
[11:36]: I don't say I know this. When I was
[11:38]: doing Money Master the Game, I'd spent
[11:40]: 23 years coaching Paul Tudtor Jones, one
[11:43]: of the 10 most successful financial
[11:45]: traders in the history of the world.
[11:46]: I've coached him every day for 23 years.
[11:50]: He is a genius. He gives me way more
[11:52]: credit than I deserve, but I like it.
[11:56]: But I've also learned so much from him.
[11:58]: So, I knew a lot before I went to go
[12:00]: interview these people. But I was more
[12:03]: than humbled because I went in with a
[12:04]: fresh view that as much as I think I
[12:06]: know about working with the best guys on
[12:07]: earth, there's so many ways to crack
[12:09]: this egg, so to speak. And I learned so
[12:12]: many distinctions. That was 10 years
[12:13]: ago, 2013, when I was in the middle of
[12:16]: writing that book. Where I am now versus
[12:19]: I was then because I've applied these
[12:20]: tools is beyond imagination. I have a
[12:23]: billion dollar net worth in the next 36
[12:25]: months, 5 years. If I don't do anything
[12:27]: that has a blowup, just my normal asset
[12:29]: at their normal growth at about 6 or 7%.
[12:34]: And I never focused on money. It wasn't
[12:35]: my focus. I changed to make sure I
[12:37]: included money as my focus. But I wasn't
[12:40]: somebody saying I'm in, you know, I've
[12:41]: got to do this. And being a billionaire
[12:43]: will not change my life at all, but
[12:45]: it'll be fun. There's only 3,000 of them
[12:47]: in the whole planet. So, it's like
[12:48]: you're a part of a unique club and it's
[12:50]: because I've applied these principles.
[12:52]: So, I am so excited. Your goal may not
[12:53]: to be a billionaire, and it certainly
[12:55]: wasn't mine, but I want you to have the
[12:57]: greatest quality of life possible. But
[13:00]: to do that, we got to take this thing
[13:01]: called money and put it in a context
[13:03]: where it doesn't add stress to your life
[13:05]: and where you feel a sense of skill and
[13:08]: understanding and optimism that even if
[13:10]: all hell breaks loose, things go up and
[13:12]: down. It's not a straight line. If you
[13:14]: think it's a straight line to what you
[13:15]: want to achieve, you've not been in
[13:17]: business. If you go to nature, show me a
[13:19]: straight line in nature. You won't find
[13:21]: it. If you find it, a human built it.
[13:23]: That's not how things grow. How do they
[13:25]: grow? They grow up and they come down a
[13:26]: little bit like a stock, right? But if
[13:28]: it's successful, the overall arc is up.
[13:31]: And over the years, there's a stacking
[13:33]: of those effects. So, what I really want
[13:35]: to get across to you is I don't give a
[13:37]: where you are. Number one, let's
[13:38]: start by being wealthy. Because if you
[13:40]: can extract as much joy as possible out
[13:42]: of every moment from little things, not
[13:44]: just the big things, not the astronaut
[13:47]: who goes to the moon and they walk on
[13:48]: the moon and it's the most unbelievable
[13:50]: experience and they come home and they
[13:51]: have a ticker tape parade in New York
[13:53]: and they shake the president's hand and
[13:54]: then what they thought the way to have
[13:57]: adventures walk on the moon and they did
[13:59]: it.
Understanding Wealth and Fulfillment
